It was great to see so many Farrant's. I don't know where I fit in because I've never checked into family history before. I'm William John Farrant, 46 years old and my father was Henry James Farrant, his father was Harry Farrant. I have 4 brothers Harry, Stephen, Rodney and Jim and two sisters Maureen and Patricia. I'm sure we're all related somewhere along the line. It's a great site Bill.

I have discovered that my Farrants who moved to Bristol from Devon (having lived near Sidbury and at Venn Ottery ,Rockbeare ,Hemyock etc) were related to Madeleine Ayres who was sometime Headmistress of St Audries School Somerset ,she married a Mr Robinson (also a Headmaster ) . Madeleine descends from FARANTS who lived at Westbury on Trym,Bristol . I wonder if there are any descendants of this family ?

WHAT A SITE INDEED! I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THE NAME "FARRANT" MEANT "FAR RAN IT" HOW TRUE IT IS I DON'T KNOW. THE FRENCH CONNECTION I HAD BEEN TOLD OF AS A CHILD. IN FACT, BEING TOLD THAT WE WERE "IN THE COURT OF KING CHARLEMAGNE". IT SURE WOULD BE GOOD TO KNOW, IF IT WAS POSSIBLY TRUE. ALSO, TOLD THAT THERE WAS A COAT OF ARMS AND A SWORD. SO YOU CAN EASILY SEE WHY I AM INTRIGUED BBY YOUR SITE.

My Dad was Norman Farrant, born in Cardiff in 1915. His Dad was Henry Walter Farrant and his Mom was Lilian Farrant nee Petheram. He emmigrated to South Africa round about 1954 and died there in 1994.My Grandfather died when my Dad was quite young and my Grandmother died in Cardiff in the early eighties. I was born in Cape Town, S.A. and moved to the U.K. with my family in 1995. All I know about my family background is my ancestors came from Devon/Cornwall and my Dad and Grandfather were only children. I was really interested by your site and would appreciate any information about any family I might have.

I realize this guestbook is for the "Farrant Surname". However, information about "Farrant" as a given name is very scarce. My wife and I named our son, Farrant Sakaguchi, after a good friend from Hawaii, Farrant Sunada. His father, a member of the US Army 100 Infantry Battalion from Hawaii, during the WW II, named him after his Hawaiian-born commanding officer, Lt. Col. Farrant L. Turner. Lt.Col. Turner was well respected by the by his Japanese-American soldiers, and was respectfully referred to by his troops as "Old Man". I'm sure there must be some interesting story between the surname, and it being used as a given name. It is interesting to find out the origin and background of our son's given name, Farrant.

I have reading the "comments" and it is so nice to see how many Farrants respond to this site. One thing that caught my attention is the letter that says there is only one Farrant link in Canada and I wonder if t is my link? My grandpa and his brother,Geo. Hicks Farrant were sent to Canada (possibly as part of the childrens immigration movement in the late 1880's or 1890.) Geo.b. in 1863, settled in BC and the last address I had was Burnaby where he and his late wife "Molly"are buried. They had 3 daughters and we have long since lost track of them. There was Majorie, Eva and Thelma. I have some old addresses. I know of only one child born to Thelma, around the 1950's. There was an aunt named Emma(Ithink Lewin) that was a Farrant and brought (or later joined) the boys to Canada when their Mother Mary Anne Hicks Farrant died, possibly soon after my grandpa Wm. Farrant(no middle name) was born. They were in Dr. Bernardo's school, for a couple of years, in England before being shipped to Canada. I would like any information that is available on these names.I might have family in BC.:) Much ap preciation. Patricia

I know that Geo. lived in Vancouver Bc and Burnaby until he died in,1962,while my grandfather Wm. Farrant came to eastern USA and later to Seattle area. We have 2 remaining Bill Farrants , a son and grandson of Wm.(Bill).I know the second family of Geo. senior and his wife #2 in England , London area. I am so pleased to see our family name.

I hope you all enjoy and get good use out of the Farrant Surname Resource Center. It was put on line on November 11, 1998, so does not yet have much data, I hope that will change in the near future. Please add whatever you can, our surname is not a common one, and we can all help each other out a great deal by sharing what we have. Thanks
